Agenda: Developing a Unified ASEAN Response to South China Sea Militarization and Regional Economic Stability

ASEAN promotes political and economic cooperation among Southeast Asian nations. Delegates address regional challenges such as maritime security, economic development, and diplomatic collaboration

China’s assertive actions in the South China Sea threaten maritime sovereignty, trade security, and regional peace. ASEAN must navigate between unity and fragmentation to form a collective response. Delegates will discuss naval confrontations, freedom of navigation, and the militarization of disputed islands. At stake are vital sea lanes and economic partnerships. The committee must also safeguard ASEAN’s neutrality, address Chinese economic pressure, and consider regional trade frameworks like RCEP. Balancing diplomacy and deterrence, this agenda calls for a uniquely Asian solution to a growing crisis. Unity is ASEAN’s strength — but will it hold under pressure?
